West Hempstead is a medium-sized hamlet, CDP and unincorporated area in the town of Hempstead, in Nassau County, New York. the hamlet has six neighborhoods and is the 96th largest community in the state. It is approximately 24 miles from the Midtown area of Manhattan. The community is known for its good schools, low crime rates and quiet streets. It features mom & pop stores, unique shops, kosher delis and more. Its also home to a thriving Jewish community/population. It is a well-educated community, over 40% of all adults have four-year degrees or more, nearly twice the national education average. It is highly ethnically and racially diverse.
