Uniondale is a medium-sized hamlet, CDP and suburb in the town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York. It has five neighborhoods and is the 65th largest community in the state. Uniondale is a mere 20 miles east of the Big Apple and all it’s opportunities. Neighboring communities include Freeport, East Meadow, Roosevelt and others. The community is home to the Hofstra University North Campus. Nearly 21% of all adults in the suburb have four-year degrees or higher. It is extremely ethnically and racially diverse. Common ancestries include Haitian, Jamaican, Irish, Latino and more. Over 40% of residents in the community were born outside the United States. English remains the primary language. However, many residents also speak Spanish, French Creole and French.

The community spans 2.7 square miles of land area. In 2000, the population was 23,100 and the population density was 8,676.5 people per square mile. In the same year, the median household income was $61,410, the median family income was $67,264 and the per capita income was $19,069. In 2010, the population had risen to 24,759 and the per capita income to $22,283. By 2015, the estimated median household income was $71,311 and the estimated per capita income was $23,305. Further, in 2015, the median house or condo value was $310,183, the mean housing price on all units was $572,425 and the median gross rent was $1,391. The current median home value is $304,100 and the current median family income is $79,821. It has a mixed workforce and job market of white and blue collar workers and positions. It is a lower-middle income community compared to state economic standards and a middle-income community compared to federal economic standards.
