Syosset, New York is a hamlet and CDP in the northeast portion of the Town of Oyster Bay. It is along the north shore of Long Island in Nassau County. It is located about 32 miles from Midtown Manhattan, has four neighborhoods and is the 97th largest community in the state. The community tries to live up to its motto “Together we will make a difference.” Over 63% of all adults in the hamlet have four-year degrees or higher making it a very well-educated community, approximately three times the national education average. It is very ethnically and racially diverse. Common ancestries include Italian, Irish, Russian, various Asian nationalities and more. Over 21% all of residents were born outside the United States. English is the primary language in the community. However, residents speak a number of other languages as well, like Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Greek. Syosset has its own police department, public library and post office as well as a station of the Long Island Rail Road. The community has so many perks, low crime rates, high rates of homeownership, good schools, beautiful views, quiet streets and luxurious homes.
The community spans five square miles of land area. It is a white-collar community where over 93% of the workforce holds white-collar positions. It is also a wealthy community in comparison to state and national economic standards. In 2010, the population was 18,829 and the population density was 3,719.7 people per square mile. In the same year, the median household income as $90,929, the median family income was $99,704 and the per capita income was $38,537. By 2015, the estimated median household income was $149,348 and the estimated per capita income was $62,271. Further, in 2015, it was reported that the median house or condo value in Syosset was $628,383, the mean price on all housing units was $572,425 and the median gross rent was $1,761. Residents face average daily commutes of approximately 36/37 minutes. Thankfully, public transportation is available and commuter trains are the most popular option in public transport.
