Kings Point is a small coastal village in Nassau County, New York. The village is located in the North Shore area of Long Island and is part of the town of North Hempstead on the Great Neck Peninsula. It has one neighborhood and is quite tiny, the 324th largest community in the state. It is nautical in nature with a rich maritime history, beautiful ocean views and waterfront scenery as well as entertaining and educational waterfront activities. Kings Point is a college town and is home to the United States Merchant Marine Academy and the American Merchant Marine Museum. Over 56% of adults in the community have four-year degrees or more, which is about two times the national education average. It is somewhat ethnically and racially diverse. About 34% of all residents of the community are foreign born. English is the primary language in the community, followed by Persian and Hebrew. The community has good schools, low crime rates, and high rates of home-ownership making it a family friendly and stable community.

It is wealthy in comparison to both state and federal economic statistics. Residents face a long average commute, approximately 36 minutes. Public transportation is available and commuter trains are the most popular form of public transport. Kings Point spans four square miles, 3.3 of land area and the remainder of water area. The estimated 2015 population was 5,131, the estimated median household income was $115,851 and the estimated per capita income was $55,419. In the same year the estimated median house or condo value was of over $1,000,000, the mean housing price on all housing units was $572,425 and the median gross rent was $807.

A brief touch of history on the community, W.R. Grace, former mayor of New York and the founder of W.R. Grace and Company lived in King’s Point for a time. His custom built mansion, as built in 1880 on a two-acre plot of land. The mansion featured eleven fireplaces and a five car garage. Author F. Scott Fitzgerald, writer of “The Great Gatsby,” lived in the area and Kings Point was the model for the fictional village of West Egg in the novel. The community has been home to many notable people, including comedian Andy Kaufman, automobile pioneer Walter Chrysler, actor Sid Caesar and many others.

Public education is provided by the Great Neck Union Free School District, which has approximately ten schools and a student body of more that 6,600 students.
