North Woodmere is a medium-sized hamlet in the town of Hempstead, New York. It is located on the south shore of Long Island in Nassau County. The hamlet has two neighborhoods and is the 110th largest community in the state. North Woodmere is separated from the neighboring community of Woodmere by Mott’s Creek. The two communities are connected via a footbridge of the creek and by Branch Boulevard. Nearly 60% of adults in the community have four-year degrees or higher, which is nearly three times the national educational average. The hamlet is somewhat diverse in terms of race and ethnicity. English is the primary common language among residents, followed by Spanish and Russian. North Woodmere has been home to a number of notable people, including inventor Martin Heit, author Nina A. Paul and composer and musical director Seth Rudetsky. It is home to Temple Hillel, a generational Jewish congregation. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan spoke at Temple Hillel. The community features good schools, low crime rates and quiet streets. It is family-friendly and quite popular with urban sophisticates.
