Lynbrook is a medium sized incorporated village in Nassau County, New York. It has four neighborhoods and is the 89th largest community in the state. It is a white collar-community, where more than 89% of the workforce is white-collar. It is an upper-middle income community compared with state economic standards and a wealthy community compared to national economic standards. The village is blessed with good schools, low crime rates and high rates of home-ownership. These factors combine to make it a warm and stable community. Many residents work outside Lynbrook and for those, the commute is a long one average about 36 minutes. But, public transportation is available, commuter trains are the most popular option. It is a well-educated community and almost 40% of adult residents hold four-year degrees and higher. The community is somewhat racially and ethnically diverse, over 15% of all residents were born outside the United States.English is the primary language in Lynbrook, but several other languages are common like Spanish, Polish and Italian.

The area that is modern day Lynbrook has gone by a number of names like Near Rockaway, Parson’s Corner, Five Corners, Rechquaakie and Pearsall’s Corner. It was not known as Lynbrook until 1894 and it became the official name when it was incorporated in 1911. The name is derived from Brooklyn, the name was divided and inverted to create Lynbrook. Brooklyn was the prior home of many inhabitants and they wanted a touch of home. A large number of homes in the community predate WWII, this unique factor makes it one of the most historic villages in the United States. There are three houses in the village that appear on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as the Rockville Cemetery.

The village spans 2.0 square miles. In 2010 the population was 19,427 and the 2010 per capita income was $39, 059. In 2013, the estimated median household income was $86,856 and the estimated per capita income was $36,801. In the same year, the estimated median house or condo value in Lynbrook was $394,846, the mean price on all housing units was $521,906 and the median gross rent was $1,603. A population estimate from 2014 estimated the population at 19,588. These figures reveal a pattern of economic growth coupled with population expansion that illustrates that Lynbrook is a thriving community.

The primary school district serving Lynbrook is the Lynbrook Union Free School District. The district has seven schools and approximately 2,800 students. Local schools include Marion Street School, Lynbrook South Middle School, West End School, Lynbrook Senior High School and others.
