Old Westbury is an incorporated village in Nassau County, New York. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island. It has two neighborhoods and is quite small, ranking and the 342nd largest community in the state. In 2007, Old Westbury was ranked as New York’s most expensive suburb by Business Week. In 2011, according to Bloomberg/Businessweek, Old Westbury was the 2nd richest town in the United States. The city was founded by Edmond Titus. It was an isolated Quaker community until the arrival of the railroad in 1836. It was incorporated when Old Westbury split from Westbury to become an independent community. It was incorporated in 1924, and slowly it grew into the rather luxurious suburban area that it is today.
The village spans 8.6 square miles of exclusively land area. The workforce is almost entirely white-collar, with over 95% of its workers holding/working white-collar positions/professions. In 2000, the population was 4,228 and the population density was 493.9 people per square mile. In the same year, the median household income was $163,046, the median family income was $184,298 and the per capita income was $72,932. By 2010, the population had risen to 4,671 and the per capita income had fallen to $69,322. In 2014 the population was 4,613. And then, in 2015 the estimated median household income was $172,762 and the estimated per capita income was $74,851. The village is served by two school districts that are headquartered in the community, East Williston Union Free School District and Westbury Union Free School District. The district’s schools are located in Old Westbury and other surrounding communities such as Williston Park and Roslyn Heights. Local private schools include Catholic Day School and Holy Child Academy. The village is home to Old Westbury Gardens, this breathtaking public garden is ranked as one of the three best public gardens in the world.
