Manhasset is a small unincorporated hamlet and CDP in Nassau County, New York. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island and is a part of the town of North Hempstead, located approximately 20 miles from the Midtown area of Manhattan. It consists of two neighborhoods and is the 217th largest community in the state. It is a diverse community in terms of race and ethnicity of residents. Over 17% of residents in Manhasset were born outside the United States. English remains the primary language of the community, followed by Spanish, Greek, Chinese and Italian. It is a coastal community with a rich nautical history. Like most coastal communities it has beautiful ocean front views, and waterfront activities. It is a stable, family friendly community with high rates of home-ownership, quiet streets, good schools and low crime rates. The area was settled  throughout  the 1600s. The Dutch West India Company claimed the area in 1623 and began to force out English settlers who had arrived previously. In 1643, the English purchased lands in the area allowing them to begin to return. During the American Revolution the British burned/damaged many of the structures causing the settlement to struggle and recovery was slow. The community took on the name Manhasset in 1840. Main industries included oyster industries and dairy farming. The arrival of the railroad brought the wealthy who sought property for country homes within an easy distance of New York City. And so the community grew and developed into the CDP we know today.

Manhasset spans 2.4 square miles of land area. It is a white-collar community, where more than 90% of the workforce is white-collar. It is a wealthy community compared to state and federal economic standards. In 2010, the population was 8,080 and the population density was 3,505.8 people per square mile. By 2015, the estimated median household income was $109,834 and the estimated per capita income was $62,32. Further in the same year, the estimated median house or condo value in the community was $942,061, the mean housing price on all units was $572,425 and the median gross rent was $1,300.

It is a well-educated community and nearly 59% of adults have four-year degrees or more. Public education  is provided by the schools of the Manhasset Union Free School District. Local schools include Munsey Park Elementary School, Shelter Rock Elementary, Manhasset Middle School and Manhasset Secondary School and others. The average daily commute for residents of Manhasset is approximately 32/33 minutes. It is a pedestrian friendly community.  Public transportation is available and commuter trains are the most popular form.
