Glen Cove is a medium-sized city in Nassua County, located in the North Shore area of Long Island. It has approximately seven neighborhoods and is the 59th largest community in the state of New York. It is bordered on three sides by the community of Oyster Bay and on the fourth by the sound. It is a nautical community and its past, present and future is forever linked to the sea. It features beautiful oceanfront scenery, a rich maritime history and countless waterfront activities and entertainment options. The community has a mayor/council form of city government which handles its day to day affairs. It has a mixed workforce of white and blue collar workers and one of the lowest crime rates in the nation. Nearly 35% of all adults in Glen Cove have earned four-year degrees or higher, well over the national education average. It is an extremely diverse community both racially and ethnically. Nearly 35% of all residents were born outside the United States. However, English remains the primary language, followed by Spanish, Italian, Polish and others.

Before the arrival of Europeans, the indigenous Lenape tribes inhabited the area. But, by 1668 English immigrants had arrived. Joseph Carpenter, who purchased 2000 acres, was one of the first settlers to purchase land there. The Simkin brothers soon joined him to help establish the settlement, which they called Musketa Cove Plantation. In the 1830s, steamboats made regular runs between Musketa Cover and the growing city of New York. In 1834 because of the negative connotation of the word “Musketa” or Mosquito, the residents voted to change the name of the community to Glen Cove. By 1850, Glen Cove had grown into a popular summer resort town. The Long Island Rail Road reached the community in 1867 making the community more accessible as a bedroom community for the city of New York. Glen Cove attracted wealthy industrialist like J.P. Morgan, F.W. Woolworth and others in the early 1900s. In the mid to late 1900s the mansions were largely re-purposed as hotels, schools, and more.

The town spans 19.3 square miles of land area. It is a middle-income community compared to state economic statistics and wealthy compared to federal statistics. In 2010, the population was 26,964 and the population density was 4,006 people per square mile. By 2015, the estimated median household income was $69,987 and the estimated per capita was $38,143. In the same year, the estimated median house or condo value was 486,344, the mean price on all housing units was $551,761 and a median gross rent of $1,766. Public transportation is available, in the form of rail and bus services and is heavily used for daily commutes.
